The effects that I had reset to the lowest level after I logged off.
What I expected to happen was...:
That the effects that I had would stay on the level that it was before I logged out.
What actually happened was...:
The effects that I had reset back to level 1 when I rejoined.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new creative world
2. Give yourself resistance 255, you will not take any damage
3. Log out and rejoin
4. You will take some damage, which means that the effect has reset to level 1

Better link: MC-118857; it gets written to a byte turning it to -1, upon re-entering the world, the amplifier gets loaded as -1, and turns to 0 as negative amplifiers aren't allowed.
