Hanging signs have bad wood grain. Wood grain should be parallel to the longest side of a piece of wood, but the hanging signs have vertical wood grain instead of horizontal wood grain.

Wooden boards are stronger if the wood grain is parallel to the longest side of the board. This means the hanging signs should have horizontal wood grain not because of preference, but because it's incorrect for the wood grain to be vertical.
Not a bug, as this is done to match the stripped log texture.
