Mobs not passing through nether portals on nether side back into overworld

Hi,

I've encountered an issue with mobs not travelling through a portal in the nether.

I wanted to take some rabbits from an area of the overworld to my home base, so I pushed them through an established portal in this area that linked up to my nether hub. They went through just fine. Touched the purple and pop, gone.

I then led them to the second established portal within the nether hub that goes to my home base in the overworld. They simply will not go through.

I have waited for the cool down and longer, I even bred them within the nether and their offspring won't go through either.

I've led them away from the portal and back again, I've tried pushing them through on leads, holding a carrot, without those things too.

I've broken the portal and remade it - that had some success. A rabbit that happened to be in the frame when I re-lit it popped through, but no others. I followed it, and the rabbit was nowhere to be found - because I had been dropped about 100ish blocks away from the overworld portal into a newly generated portal which I found odd as I'd originally made the portal in the overworld - I didn't do any nether portal relinking on either side until today. I thought it would just relink up to the original portal in the area. I broke the new overworld portal, got back to my original overworld base portal and there was the rabbit. I went through my overworld base portal, ended up back in my nether hub with the rabbits, went through again, and was back at my base portal, so the portal was fixed at least.

But since then, nothing has worked. They will not go through. I tried breaking it a second time, but no rabbits have gone through this time. But it does link up to the base portal at least.

I'm worried that the wither skeleton farm I plan to make won't work as a result or any farms that require nether portals. Others have told me that they've noticed an issue with the portals since the update too.

I should add - my nether hub is not on the nether roof. It's just within the nether.

I've also tried boats and rail carts. They don't work either.

I have also tried this UNMODDED as I mentioned above - vanilla, no fabric. All mods turned off. Same issue.

If I try pushing them through the portal they came through to get into the nether, they go through without an issue. For some reason they won't go through my base portal in the nether though.

does MC-116279 or MC-151648 describe your issue?
if not, could you give me your world file?

The file was too large so I have uploaded it to dropbox here:

As for what the issue is, it's detailed above?

Mobs will not enter a second portal within the nether. I take them through one at point A in the overworld just fine. I take them to the second portal within the nether that leads to my base at Point B. They will not enter the portal that leads to point B in the overworld.

I can however take them back through the portal they came through back to point A within the nether.

So, I'm not sure why they're unable to travel through point B's portal. Cooldown has passed, breeding them and trying to send their offspring through also doesn't work.

The portal randomly creates a new overworld portal a decent ways from my base for some reason despite the overworld portal at point B being the original portal I made and I never destroyed/relinked the one it created in the nether to link up to a different one. It's just randomly deciding to drop me somewhere else in the overworld.

So the issue is twofold - mobs refusing to go through point B's portal, and the portal for point B deciding to make a second portal in the overworld for some unknown reason despite the original portal at point B being the one that created the portal I use in the nether.

Does that make sense? :/

Apologies, I misread your last comment peashooter. It sounds more similar to the latter, but I don’t know enough to say for sure as I haven’t checked the cooldown the way they have. I’ve just assumed a ~30 second cool-down as I thought was standard.

edit: also, the portal is long established. I’ve been through it both ways several times.

Hello, I'm try some testing about your world and here is the result:

When I spawn in, I see 3 rabbits, a nether portal and a hallway, the rabbits don't go to the nether portal, as you mention earlier. I tried to push/lure "in" and "out" the portal many times, but it did not help. I even destroy and recreate the portal on the exact same location, and yeah you guessed it, the rabbit did not teleported. Then I tried a bit further, I switched to Creative and spawn mobs in the portal such as pigs, zombies, endermen, etc. And surprisingly, those mobs did teleported to the portal. And then, I decided to built the new nether portal far away from the original portal and let the rabbits go in. And surprisingly, it's worked, the rabbits teleported to the Overworld. However, I cannot bring them back to the Nether using the new portal, even when I destroy it. I did some more testing and I can conclude that:

"For some reason, in your world, once a mob get teleport to the Nether or Overworld using nether portal, it cannot teleport back to the Overworld or Nether using that same Nether portal that bring the mob to the Nether or Overworld."

I will probably do more testing in the future. And also sorry for my bad English.

After further testing, it seems that this isn't a issue for only your world, it's the issue for every worlds that created in 1.20.1 (or 1.20 but I'm don't check it so I'm not sure). In my testing, every entity cannot teleport to the Nether using the nether portal in the world that is created in 1.20.1. This isn't an issue when teleport to the Overworld using the nether portal or in the world that is created in before 1.20.1 and playing in 1.20.1.

So I think that I can confirm this and the title should change to "Non-player entities cannot teleport to the Nether using the nether portal in the world that is created in 1.20.1". The "Steps to reproduce" is very simple:

Step 1: Created an 1.20.1 world
Step 2: Build a nether portal
Step 3: Let non-player entities go to the nether portal (summon or lure an entity in the portal, throw an item to the portal, etc.)

Expect: The entities teleport to the Nether
Reality: They don't

I cannot reproduce this behavior. video

Never mind, I realized that the reason why entity cannot travel through nether portal not because of this issue but rather because of MC-151648. The nether portal isn't linked, that why entities don't teleport. After linked the portal, this no longer the issue.

[Mod] Jingy

After testing, this does in fact duplicate MC-151648, as the nether portal is not actually 'linked'. Your nether portal coordinate is at -21 91 104, and it's linked overworld coordinate should be (roughly) 167 91 832. Instead, the portal you are trying to send them through to the overworld is at -43 93 799. The reason you are able to travel between the two portals yourself is that the game does not try to correct for the incorrect location when you (a player) travel through it. Basically, it does not try to create a new portal at the correct location, but instead just sends you to the nearest portal relative to the correct location of the linked overworld portal.

After breaking the portal you have in your base, and traveling through the portal in the nether, it correctly will send both you, and the rabbits.
