When I throw a riptide trident (it would have to be riptide 255, only obtainable using cheats) to get myself into an unloaded chunk, I fall through the void without taking damage, and then get teleported back up after some time.

This is not a duplicate as this has nothing to do with potion effects. The riptide also is in fact supported by Minecraft.

That report is the general report for unsupported levels of effects AND enchantments. You're using riptide level 255, which is an unsupported level of the enchantment.
This is not that hard to understand.
