Happened to me as well. Quite weird.

Still, I believe it would be inappropriate to close this as a duplicate, since this issue has nothing to do with effects. I believe it would be more appropriate to close this as “Won’t Fix”.

This is not a duplicate as this has nothing to do with potion effects. The riptide also is in fact supported by Minecraft.

I experience the same issue on java edition

It also happens when you use cheat engine to teleport an extremely long distance and die of suffocation.

But the fact that it gives you the option to join is also a bug.

The same happens with beds...
