MC-267966

Slimes and magma cubes are slightly smaller than before

Compare the hitbox of a slime in Minecraft 1.20.4 versus Minecraft snapshot 24w03b:

/execute align xyz run summon slime ~ ~ ~35 {Size:128,Tags:["MC-267966"],NoAI:1b}

The slime is slightly smaller (about 1/4 of a block) in the snapshot, which seems like an unintended change as it can cause the slime to act differently in some situations.

This issue also affects magma cubes.

Mojang fixed the original bug. A bit too much.

Not caused to that fix, as per the comments there, the slime was already affected as they simply changed the calculation, but were off by 0.0002. That issue and this one (for slimes) appeared at the same moment.

How does this affect the game for regular sized slimes? Also, could you please provide screenshots showing the issue you're mentioning 🙂

Original size of size 0 got reduced by 0.0002 between 24w03a and 23w51b. While hardly noticable, it is a difference as a result of the code change. That's the effect on the game.

This seems to have resolved bug MC-206167 for Magma Cubes, but apparently not for Slimes.

Model has no relation to hitbox, stargazer. The model and its positioning haven't changed in any way due to the hitbox change.

Because of MC-268627, is this issue worth re-opening? This issue might relate to why slimes can spawn when there are carpets 2 blocks apart from eachother for spawnproofing. And also can relate to magma cubes spawning in Basalt Deltas and suffocating in the terrain.
