I was playing around with jukeboxes on 1.4.4, and my game crashed. I put a music disc in one jukebox, to build with the sound on, and then destroyed a jukebox about 2 blocks away from it. I popped the music disc out of the one in use and my game crashed. 😞 Has happened twice. Crash logs attached. Reproducible? Also, my world isn't corrupted. (I used the same world both times it crashed.)!!!!
[media]!!!! I think this happened because Minecraft lost too much memory trying to allocate me destroying music boxes wit discs in them. I recreated, and first thing I did was put music discs in over 5 jukeboxes. Then, I destroyed 3 in a row and on the third the disc item glitched it's place and I crashed.

Hmm odd.. though I think you might want to update your java. It's quite outdated.

Here's my crash report for the same issue; my Java isn't old. While destroying a jukebox, the game crashed, and on reloading, the chunk had been reset to its original state as far as I can tell. My poor home.

see crash rep

The exact same thing happened to my brother on the survival server we play on. He destroyed a jukebox twice in different chunks, and both times the chunk containing the jukebox reset. In addition, everyone within the reset chunk was kicked from the server with an end of stream error (or something similar).

I have the same problem on server. Gamemode survival, Minecraft 1.4.6.
Description: I was "chopping" a music box and the server crash. When I went back inside, the chunk was gone and lost all objects.

My daughter was experiencing this with a map she was playing around with. Whenever she destroys a jukebox in the 1st floor of the building she was working on, the app crashes and much of the building is lost when restarting. I've tried the map on my own version (both of us are using 1.4.6) and I had the same thing happen. I'm attaching a zip with the map (before it crashed) and the log files after the crash. To reproduce, try destroying the jukebox on the first floor of the brick building.

Try updating your java. It is pretty out of date.

It now happened on two separate servers for me, regenerating an entire chunk.

Anon, I upgraded java and it doesn't seem to be an issue any more.

Tim, Is that version 1.6.0_37 (the latest one for Mac) or higher? For me MC still crashes.

Jack, yes 1.6.0_37. For some reason the java update wasn't showing up in my systems update manager but I manually installed that version from Apple here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

Hmm, already got version 1.6.0_37 but it's not helping me..

Update to 1.7 or later. 1.7.0_10 is the newest version

As far as I know, Apple does not provide any supported binaries for Java 7 currently. I realize one can get 7 from Oracle but I wouldn't expect the average Mac user to go out their way to install java like this. I think this is still a valid bug to be looked at.

But this is a Java problem, not a Minecraft problem, so it is invalid. This is no more valid than saying that a mod not working is minecraft's problem because they don't have good support for mods.

I have to admit I can't get jukeboxes to crash since upgrading to Java 1.7.0_10. Edit: Aha, I can thanks to the tip below about exiting the world and going back in to destroy previously placed jukeboxes.

1.6.0_37 is the official version, there are too many issues with java 7 & Mac. Going to lava the jukeboxes 🙂

I just want to say that I reproduced this bug on my test server with 1.4.6. It did corrupt the chunks. But it took way more than 3 jukeboxes. I had to be in creative mode and destroyed like 15 in a row. Oh, none of the juke boxes had CD's in them too btw.
At first It crashed me with 3. But no one else on the chunk. I then realized that my personal java wasn't updated. So, I updated java to 1.7 v10 (both 32 and 64). Then I went back in and destroyed a bunch in a row. This time it corrupted the chunk. No one could get near that chunk or spawn in the chunk.
my server has 8gigs of ram but my processor sucks 2.0 quad. So since it drains the memory, maybe I had to kill a bunch to reproduce compared to others who may have less ram. BTW my server java is 1.7 v10. (we updated because of these forums).
To be fair I know this is a vanilla MC bug. I did reproduce this on MC server with about 7 plugins running. I'm letting you know this because it does make a difference. However, this bug is a big one as it will literally corrupt the chunk.
I guess I can test it on single player too. But I allocate a ton of ram to my MC as well.
Ill get back

Rememberme1's crash report for 1/3/12

I just reproduced it on single player. Java version 1.7 10. Version 1.4.6. NO mods/plugins/allocated/etc.

for me:
start a local creative world
place 4-5 jukeboxes
leave world and enter again
destroy jukeboxes and crash
After again login, 3/4 area of chunk is fully reset to all plain stone with top soil and air from level-up
I check with minutor, the chunk appears to be saved ok but is destroyed on read-in at MC startup
Same behavior when walking away and coming back to chunk (it probably happens after chunk is written&reloaded)
5/1/13 crash reps

for me:
1.4.7 no mods, newest JAVA, no texture pack
destroyed jukebox -> game crashed -> everything in a 5block radius disappeared! all my chests full of treasure 😞

Same problem.
Minecraft server 1.4.7, client 1.4.7, no mods, no texturpacks, Java Version 7 Update 10 64 bit.

I got this to happen and it wasn't playing anything. I had just applied an animated texture (two frames) and broke the jukebox I had just placed to trigger the glitch. It took out some quartz, emerald, anvils, a crafting table, redstone blocks, and a command block when I reloaded the world.

It happened to me yesterday. Now it says that it is ''Fixed''. Does that mean he got his house and stuff back ? If it is the case, tell me how please. I upgraded my Java to the latest version yesterday (as suggested). Thanks 🙂

No, it just won't happen in the future.

This problem has now happened to me 3 times, twice in one world different chunks and i have now lost 2 houses. I installed the latest java but it still happens on my single player... 😞
My poor houses... 😞

These are the crash reports and screen shots of 2, didnt do some of the first one

It is crashing on 13w05a. Just tested on plain and unmodded jar. Instead of resetting the chunk, only the block where the jukebox was on gets lighting error (it becomes darker), and both the jukebox and the disc disappear.

Get 13w05b, it's been fixed.

Thank you!
EDIT:
Tested, the original bug was fixed, but a new one came up: the first jukebox you place disappears right in front of your eyes. That's what I did: 1) create a world, 2) In creative, pick a jukebox and a disc, 3) switch to survival, 4) place the jukebox — it disappears in the next tic., 5) switch back to creative and pick a new jukebox, 6) place it, it remains.

i had the same issue a couple of times, but now it's just done and i'm using 1.4.7 with optifine and HD texture pack 0.o verry strange, i can break, place, break it again and place it again without any problem, no lag or crash or what ever, without updating or what ever, i don't get it :/

Same happened with me as well but on version 1.4.7

Ezer'Arch, I beg to differ. I destroyed like 5/6 jukeboxes fine until it suddently crashed...

Luisa, it has been fixed in a snapshot, the bug is still present in 1.4.7. So get a recent snapshot or wait until 1.5 if you are experiencing this bug.

Did anyone ever get the chunk to revert back from having regenerated so they could get their stuff back? Reading through the comments, lots of people say the bug is "fixed" and even one person asks if that means that the chunk and the house came back, but a Mod replies that it just meant "it just won't happen in the future." If there's a way to get the chunk to revert back to pre-regeneration, please post it in the comments.
