Every time you enter the overworld through a nether portal in the nether, a new one generates ~100 blocks from the original portal leading to the nether. This is easily repeatable, as you can see in the pictures.

This isn't a bug as far as i'm aware

When a portal is generated in the nether, it prefers to spawn in a non-dangerous location over spawning in the correct position for linking back. For example, if the location where your portal should link to is in the middle of a lava lake, the portal is instead created at the edge of that lake or on an overhang, which isn't guaranteed to link back exactly to the original portal's position.
