The Bug
Snapshot 24w21a added a new sound (block.vault.reject_rewarded_player
) to inform players that the vault has already been looted. However, in my testing, I could not get this sound to play from a vault, even in a naturally generated one in a trial chamber.
It does exist, however, and can be played using the /playsound
command.
The sound is presumably supposed to play if a player has already looted a vault and is trying to unlock it again using a trial key, as stated in the changelog:
Added sound effect to help players understand they've already looted a vault
When attempting to right-click (use) a trial key on a vault when it has already been unlocked, it does nothing - no hand animation and no sound.
Note that all of these issues affect ominous vaults as well.
How to Reproduce
Place down a vault.
Unlock the vault using a trial key.
After the vault has finished ejecting the items, attempt to unlock it again using a trial key.

block.vault.reject_rewarded_player
sound does not play, nor does any hand animation.
Intended Behavior
Although unofficial, the intended behavior seems to be something like from slicedlime's video.
[media]✔ The hand animation and the block.vault.reject_rewarded_player
sound plays in the video, which is what is probably expected.

However, this issue is Working as Intended.
The report you have submitted is working as intended: vault only plays the "reject_rewarded_player" sound when it is active. You need another Player who hasn't opened the vault yet to stay nearby for the sound to play when you try to open it.
Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.
