Historically, care is taken so that there is no item or block named 'X' that is related to a 'Yish X' or 'Zish X'. For example:
Wheat seeds were simply seeds until 1.13, despite melon, pumpkin, etc. seeds existing
Turtle scutes were simply scutes until 1.20.4, when armadillo scutes were added
However, this consideration has not been taken into account for eggs; simply eggs (dropped by chickens) exist, along with dragon eggs, turtle eggs, and sniffer eggs. I believe this issue causes confusion for users as 'egg' can refer to both a specific item and a category of items.

Honestly, I don't see any issue here at all. When people say "egg", we almost always think it as a chicken egg and not another egg. For example, when someone says "I boiled an egg.", most of us will obviously see that he or she had boiled a chicken egg and not another egg. If that person wants to show us he or she had boiled a duck egg, he or she has to says "I boiled a duck egg.".
In fact, in the Oxford Learner's Dictionaries, to define "egg", it said: "a bird’s egg, especially one from a chicken, that is eaten as food". So yeah, in my opinion, nothing wrong here at all.
