Minecraft stuck on saving when server side chest lag

When you enter the overworld through a nether portal, the server lags when you open a chest. Exiting the world after breaking the chest makes the game get stuck on the saving screen. Entering the world just makes the game get stuck on 100%. Entering the world makes the player fall into a pit of nothing
