I’m building a dual railway where part of it is sloped, and after getting powered rails 4 steps up realized that only the middle two were being powered from the redstone torch below; the rail segments at either end remained unpowered. I tried moving the redstone torch adjacent to the bottommost or topmost rail and when I do so those segments get power but not the other three. The odd thing is that I had pre-designed the entire system in a creative test world and the whole length of track up the slope (7 powered rails) runs just fine on a single redstone torch placed underneath the third rail from the bottom. I don’t see any reason why this won’t work in my survival world.
By the way I checked for similar open bugs and while this sounds similar to MC-99594, it’s different in that the earlier case has a broken slope while in this case the rails form an unbroken slope.

I could have sworn I only had powered rails in my inventory when I was setting this up, but I went back into the game to check and you’re right — they were activator rails. I’m surprised you could tell that just from the screen shots because they look exactly the same to me; I could only tell the difference by targeting them with the debug display on.
The middle rails are activator rails, not powered rails. This appears to just be MC-79835.
Activator rails serve a completely different purpose, to dismount entities.
