Changing particle textures using a resource pack will break the textures of unrelated particles

I noticed white lines on my screen whenever I jump in water.
I found out the cause was loading a specific rsp. However none of the textures within said rsp are related to water particles.

As such I came to the conclusion that this is a problem with minecraft itself that manifests when custom textures are used.

Steps to reproduce

  • Load this rsp

    • This rsp only contains custom textures for explosion and enchanting table particles

  • Place water in a hole with soulsand in it

  • Observe the water surface as you bob up and down in the water

Observed results

  • White lines appear on your screen

  • You can verify it's indeed a problem with particles by setting particles to minimal.

Expected results

  • Particle textures wouldn't be broken

Would MC-149630 describe your issue?

No that report seems to be exclusive to the campfire texture and doesn't require resource packs.

The description may be specific to campfire smoke, but the report is about particles in general ("Some particles")

This is the same issue; it's the particle texture atlas leaking ever so slightly.

I agree with Dhranios, resolving this as a duplicate.

In this case please add my reproduction steps to MC-149630 considering that issue doesn't have reproduction steps, and others have had trouble reproducting it.

Anyways MC-149630 isn't triaged and is an old issue. Leaving this open would greatly increase the chances of it getting fixed, considering the old report is unlikely to ever get triaged.

Mojang will triage issues when they get to them on their own time. Considering how low of an impact this has on every-day gameplay (hardly even noticeable without looking closely) this would not be urgent enough to bump for Mojang to see and triage/fix. You've been given ownership of the parent report now, so that should suffice.
