Colored beacons look white when you are looking directly at them from a large distance

If you have a beacon beam far away it looks white when you look right at it but if it is on the side of the screen it looks the correct color

Steps to reproduce

  1. Place a beacon with a colored glass on top

  2. Set your render distance to like 20

  3. Go far away (like 1 chunk short of your render distance so it is still in view)

  4. Notice the beam looks white ❌

  5. Look away from the beacon so it is barely in your field of view. Notice it now looks the correct color. ✔

This behavior has already been reported in MC-231802, which was resolved as a duplicate of MC-231123. Unfortunately, the additional information from MC-231802 is yet to be added to the parent ticket.

Actually, that fog behavior shouldn't occur at all. It used to occur with chunks where chunks would not be visible if you looked directly at them but not when you view them from the edge of your field of view. I cannot find the bug report for that issue though. That has since been fixed though, so it suggests that the fog that occludes beacon beams is for some reason not cylindrical and is instead cubic

Thank you for your report!
