The launcher on GNU/Linux fails to operate and load the page to start the game. Have tried to relaunch using the direct downloaded version and the ArchLinux AUR version, but same results.

I had the same issue. First, I removed ~/.minecraft. Second, I reinstalled minecraft-launcher from archlinux AUR (git clone).
If it does not work, try > sudo minecraft-launcher.
