try reinstalling the game files

Wiped entire ~/.minecraft folder, did not resolve.

Newest snapshot is very broken.. A lot of players have issues with rendering in this snapshot.

It works for you on other versions right?

Correct, 1.21.5 and 25w15a work just fine

@ErdbeerbaerLP At the time of recording the video you attached to your original report (MC-300556), you were still on Mesa 25.0.0. After updating to Mesa 25.0.7, have you made sure to reboot your computer?

I did just reboot and rechecked. for me it looks like I am on 25.0.7, but the game states 25.0.0-devel.
Maybe I am doing something wrong here. Also seem to be no updates available thru package manager (yet?)

I have the same problem starting with versions of the game after 1.21.5.

Both official launcher and 3rd party launchers are affected.

Vanilla and modded are affected.

Radv (mesa) and amdgpu drivers are affected.

Does it with core or compat profiles, usually compat solves these things temporarily.

This feels a lot like the game is calling a dll with the wrong charset or calling convention.

I was having the same exect issue with AMDGPU, which is using Mesa 25.0.0-dev.

I switched to Kisek PPA, which provides Mesa 25.1.7 and everything works fine.

Of course, I had to get rid of AMDGPU for good. Otherwise the AMD drivers would lock and use only version 25.0.0-dev.

As I see it, then, the problem can be considered as solved as long as the AMDGPU drivers are not use (for the moment, I don’t know if in the future they’ll update and switch to version 25.1.0-dev or something like that).

I can confirm what Marco Lizza has found that it’s the Mesa version causing problems and that Kisak fresh version of the mesa drivers do indeed work until our OSes catch up.
