This is actually a problem on a 1.21.4 mod pack as well as other vanilla versions. I cannot place a double chest atop another double chest. I’ll simply have to single chests adjacent to one another.
Environment
I’m not sure when environment means, so I’ll just specify that my game is 1.21.4 Java Edition, with mods unrelated to chests, as long as you don’t count Resource Backpacks.

Environment is where you put your PC details (OS, CPU, etc.).
Also, please only test an issue with an unmodified, latest version (currently 1.21.5) and/or latest snapshot (25w18a).

However, this issue is Invalid.
Your game, launcher or server is modified.
If you can reproduce the issue in a vanilla environment, please recreate the issue.
Any non-standard client/server/launcher build needs to be taken up with the appropriate team, not Mojang.
A world which had previously been opened with a modified client might be corrupted. Please try reproducing the issue in a newly generated world.
Any plugin issues need to be addressed to the creator of the plugin or resource pack.
If you have problems on large servers like Hypixel, please contact them first as they run modified server software.
