I was swimming in the ocean looking for squids to kill to get ink sacs to dye concrete for my build, and I killed a few, but then I saw a squid that was significantly smaller than the others. Keep in mind this is Java Edition, and all sources say it's a Bedrock-exclusive feature. Yes, I had multiple packs activated, but once I saw the squid, I turned them off, and the squid was still mini. It was basically just like the baby squids from Bedrock Edition, but on Java Edition.
I encountered this on my long-term Survival world, and I don't use cheats or commands to spawn anything. I've seen one other report about a baby squid on Java Edition on here before, but it appears they were using commands.
In the ocean. I saw it swimming around when I was hunting squids, and it moved around like a regular squid, just smaller.

The behavior you have reported is working as intended: Please refer to the 24w33a and 1.21.2 changelogs, the latter of which is quoted below.
Added baby versions of Dolphins, Squids, and Glow Squids
Squid Spawn Eggs will only spawn adult Squids
There is a 5% chance of Squids spawned in groups in the wild to be a baby
Please note that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.
