Not sure if this is a bug or not, but you’re able to place buttons on top of walls with using the fill command, but if you click the button, it just disappears!
Edit: Seems to only work if wall is manually changed with a debug stick first.

I can’t reproduce this, if I /setblock ~ ~ ~ minecraft:stone_button[face=floor]
in midair or anywhere else I can press it and it will remain.
Hm, seems to only pop off sometimes. Try to place the button over a piece of wall. Say a Resin Brick Wall. Make sure two opposide sides are set to ‘low’, and the two other opposide sides are set to ‘none' and ‘up’ is set to ‘false’. (So, just a piece of wall without any corners or anything sticking up). The button will be floating a little over the wall. Then use the debug stick and set ‘up’ to ‘true’ and then click the button.

If I changed the wall before I place the button, the button will just pop off right after I place it
Would also be nice to be able to place buttons on walls in survival, but that’s definitely not a bug
