Minecraft (any version/modpack) screen freezes but game keeps running – laptop itself doesn’t freeze

The problem:

On any version of Minecraft (vanilla, Fabric, Forge, modpacks), the game screen freezes but the game itself keeps running.

I can still move, hear sounds, interact, open menus, etc. — but the display stays stuck on the frozen frame.

My laptop doesn’t freeze — I can still use Windows, open apps, move the mouse, etc. It’s only the Minecraft window that locks up.

It’s totally random: sometimes it happens right after I get into the main menu, and sometimes it happens hours into actual gameplay.

The only pack I’ve found that doesn’t do this is All The Mods 9 No Frills.

My system:

Laptop: i5-1035G1 (4C/8T), Intel UHD Graphics, 20GB DDR4 RAM

Temps are good — I’ve repasted the CPU, installed a 2nd heatsync, and cleaned the fans.

Game runs smoothly (60–100 FPS) before the freeze. This isn’t FPS stutter or lag; the display just stops updating.

What I’ve tried:

Fresh installs (vanilla + modded)

Different launchers (CurseForge, Modrinth, Prism, vanilla)

Updated GPU drivers (Intel UHD latest version)

Allocated 2GB → 12GB RAM

Toggled windowed/fullscreen, VBOs, all video settings

Disabled/replaced performance mods (Sodium, Lithium, Krypton, Iris, EntityCulling, etc.)

Reset Windows, reinstalled Java, cleaned system

Notes:

Happens without mods too.

My friend can run the same modpacks on their system with no issues.

I’ve asked around, even had techs look at it, and no one has found the cause yet.

Do you have at your disposal some more informations?

Anything specific you need? I cant think of anything else to add

The bug could be caused by everything, even the fact that you used some modded versions could impact on the vanilla loader

I believe it was discord hardware acceleration that was causing this issue, after literal hours of troubleshooting, the second I opened discord today my game did it again. I havent had time to test it with discord running(hardware accelerstion off)

I will let you know what happens when I get a chance to test it

Are you able to record a video if this occuring in the vanilla game using the official launcher? if possible, recorded using a mobile device so we can see the screen freeze as it occurs.

Please also attach the full launcher log after the issue has occured, found in minecraft/launcher_log.txt.

This issue is being temporarily resolved as Awaiting Response. Once the requested information has been delivered, the report will be reopened automatically.
