1.8.9 players can't join servers like hypixel, authetication issue

some players simply can’t join 1.8.9 servers, like hypixel due to authentication issues

and if the login goes alright, no one’s skin loads

Environment

here's a example screenshot of how we look like vs the skin we were supposed to be using but doesn't load (server custom skins are allowed, it is a java server after all, it is hypixel)

This is not only limited to 1.8.9 . This also happens to ALL VERSIONS up to 1.16.5 . Mods don’t matter , it’s an issue to connect to the servers , even personnal ones . This has been impacting a lot of people , i hope it’s gonna get fixed soon because no one can play servers under 1.16.5 because of that .

The linked ticket WEB-8291 currently returns “Issue not found,” suggesting that it may have been made internal or removed. However, the underlying authentication failure continues to affect all legacy Minecraft: Java Edition versions (1.16.5 and earlier).

Players on these versions are currently unable to join any online servers — and potentially even LAN-hosted worlds — due to TLS or certificate validation errors when connecting to Mojang’s authentication endpoints.

Given the widespread impact across older versions still actively used by many players, could the team please clarify whether this issue is being tracked internally and whether a compatibility fix is planned?

These versions remain important for community projects and historical preservation, so confirmation of ongoing support would be greatly appreciated.

The public sites apparently don't automatically redirect moved issues to their new links. WEB-8291 is now called MC-302551. Apologies for the confusion.
