I tried a contraption to fire a mob north, but it spawned facing south ruining the outcome. Personally I think you should be able to dictate the direction or we all hail the new North South mob summoning rule. The ability to dictate the direction of the mob would be very helpful for map makers and other such types.

But this is not a suggestion, unless all mobs are intended to spawn south. If this is true, then they should never fix the villager crowding (they crowd in an specific direction).
It may be possible to edit the Rotation NBT tag in the custom NBT data in the command line, but don't take my word for it, as the two Floats controlling rotation have no names:

The reason your report falls under the category of feature request/suggestion is because you are requesting the implementation of a feature that is not currently present in the game. We do not currently track this types of reports. Currently, we are logging bugs (incorrect behaviours) for present game features. The report regarding villager crowding is considered a bug as it is an error relating to the AI system, which is a present feature in the game.
Ah I see so then I will build all my bases facing south so I can see mobs faces. Unless mobs normally spawn in random directions, in which case I would expect that then at the very least that /summon or mob eggs would spawn facing random directions. Thank you for your time and explanation, I appreciate hearing and working to understand our difference in opinion.
All mobs normally spawn facing south, don't know why this hasn't been labled "works as intended" but whatever.
