The fog color no longer transitions smoothly when the weather changes at night while under the Night Vision effect

This behavior was introduced in 25w19a.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Give yourself the Night Vision effect.

    effect give @s minecraft:night_vision infinite

  2. Set the time to midnight.

    time set minecraft:midnight

  3. Toggle downfall. If the weather is clear, set it to rain or thunder; otherwise, set it to clear.

weather rain
weather thunder

Observed behavior

The color of the fog will rapidly and abruptly change back and forth.

Expected behavior

The color would transition smoothly, as was the case in previous versions.

Doesn’t seem to be fixed in 26.2 snapshot 6

Doesnt seen to be fixed!!

This issue also seems to happen when:

  1. During sunrise/sunset

  2. Turning the camera during sunrise/sunset

  3. Moving into a biome with a different fog color during night - noticeable when moving back and forth a surface sulfur cave or a pale garden (interestingly, the pale garden’s fog color seems to have changed in 26.2 snapshot 6.)

1 and 2 may be harder to notice, but it is definitely jitterier than previous versions (tried comparing with 1.21.4)

Confirmed in 26.2 Pre-Release 2.
