In survival mode, when placing wet sponges in the nether, the items don’t disappear from the inventory. While placing a block the displayed stack size decreases by one as expected, but I can continue placing blocks even after the slot seems empty. When interacting with that slot in the inventory or swapping it to the offhand the original full stack of wet-sponge items reappears. The placed wet sponge “dries” into a sponge block that can be mined by the player (not a “ghost-block”).
As far as I can tell this only happens with wet sponge blocks and only in the nether, probably related to the special drying-out mechanic of that block.
funny bug, I was able to recreate it
