In the latest snapshot, geysers were made to work with scaffolding, but this might have had the unintended effect of making waterlogged blocks (copper grates, roots, ect) no longer work with the geyser.
The update blog post says scaffolding is meant to be an alternative, not an outright replacement, so this is believed to be an error as it actively strips away player creative control with how they want their geyserβs to look.
The solution is to fix whatever caused geysers to cease functionality with waterlogged blocks.

Scaffolding does not fully work as an alternative to copper grates as Mojang intended. Waterlogged grates, leaves, or mangrove roots do not spread water, meaning they were perfect for making compact geyser setups that didnβt need extra blocks to prevent spillage. The recent change only addresses how to protect players from the noxious effect, meanwhile this other functionality with certain waterlogged blocks is completely disregarded.
