As shown in the attached screenshot, the Shelf Mushrooms are capable of attaching to non-existent blocks. The Shelf Mushroom in the image is attached to an air block and is facing the wrong direction.
Additionally, conveniently shown in the same screenshot, fallen Dappled trees have strange positioning when generated, potentially contributing to the Shelf Mushroom bug. As shown in the screenshot, the stump of the log is nowhere near the actual fallen log, and the fallen log itself is on a gravity-defying slope.
