Instant Health splash potion with amplifier 29 deals 2147483648 damage and kills players

In Java Edition 26.2, when a player obtains a splash potion of Instant Health with amplifier 29 (which corresponds to a healing amount of 2,147,483,648 health points, or 1,073,741,824 hearts), the healing value overflows the signed 32-bit integer limit. The overflow results in a negative value, which is interpreted as damage instead of healing. This damage kills the player instantly, even in Creative mode. No death message appears in the chat or on the death screen. The damage is not classified as magic damage, as it is not reduced by Resistance and does not produce magic-damage death messages. And even if the game rule 'keep_inventory' was set to false, the items in the player's inventory that die in this way will disappear without being dropped or retained.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch Minecraft Java Edition 26.2.

  2. Execute the following command in chat or command block:
    /give @s splash_potion[potion_contents={custom_effects:[{id:"instant_health",amplifier:29}]}]

  3. Equip the obtained splash potion and throw it at your own feet (or directly on your position).

  4. Observe the player's health and death screen.

Observed Results:

  • The player dies immediately upon the potion's effect application.

  • This occurs even if the player is in Creative mode.

  • No death message is shown in the chat window.

  • No death message appears on the death screen.

  • The damage is not reduced by the Resistance status effect, and the death message does not indicate magic damage (e.g., no "[Player] was magically struck" or similar).

Expected Results:

  • The potion should heal the player for 2,147,483,648 health points, which should be capped or clamped to the player's maximum health (e.g., 20 health points for Survival mode, or unlimited health for Creative mode).

  • Alternatively, the game should handle the overflow gracefully, preventing negative healing values from being applied as damage.

  • In Creative mode, the player should not take damage or die from any potion effect.

  • A proper death message should appear if the player does die (e.g., "[Player] was killed by magic" or a generic death message), and the death screen should display that message.
