Short description of the issue
Using the armor_trims.json atlas, it was possible to point trims to use specific textures rather than applying a paletted permutation. Now that entity armor trim material textures are generated on-demand, the ability to override a trim material’s texture seems to be gone as well.
Steps to reproduce the issue
Open Minecraft 26.2.
Create or open a world in creative mode or with cheats enabled.
Apply a Redstone trim of either Flow or Host onto any piece of armor.
Download and select the attached resource pack
TrimOverrideExample.zip.Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 on a 26.3 snapshot version.
Expected result
The Redstone Flow and Host trim textures would be customized via the resource pack to be a rainbow like on version 26.2.
Actual result
The Redstone Flow and Host trim textures remain unchanged, and are still red using the redstone.png palette.
I’m hopeful that even if a fix isn’t made for 26.3 on short notice, a fix is at some point available in a future update like 26.4 or 27.1. I’ve been using this feature for a resource pack/datapack and I would be quite sad if it is no longer possible forever.
