Short description of the issue: When a player lands on any color of cushion from a height greater than approximately 20 blocks, the player suffers fatal fall damage and dies. Simultaneously, the cushion disappears. Additionally, when the cushion is destroyed or disappears, it produces grass block particles instead of its own texture. This issue affects all 16 colors of cushions. Steps to reproduce: Place any color of cushion (e.g., white_cushion) on the ground at Y=20. Build a platform 20 blocks directly above the cushion (e.g., at Y=40). Jump off the platform and land precisely on the cushion below. Repeat with different colors to confirm the issue affects all 16 variants. Expected result: The player should take no fall damage, as the cushion is designed to be a "soft landing" block. The cushion should remain in place. Actual result: The player dies from fall damage. The cushion disappears simultaneously. When the cushion disappears (or is broken), it drops grass block particles instead of cushion particles. Additional notes: Tested in 26.3 Snapshot 3, and confirmed still present in 26.3 Snapshot 4. Pure vanilla environment, no mods or resource packs. The particle issue suggests the cushion may be inheriting properties from the grass block incorrectly.

This issue is very likely WAI as cushions do not have collision, stated in the same snapshot they were introduced in.
Additional observation: When the player dies from fall damage on a cushion, the cushion itself temporarily disappears during the death animation and reappears after the player respawns.
@phizlip Thanks for your input, but I think there are a few misunderstandings here that need to be clarified.
The cushion is a vanilla feature, not a mod.
It was added in 26.3 Snapshot 3 as an official Minecraft feature. Comparing it to modded blocks like "soft landing pillows" is irrelevant. This report is about vanilla behavior, not what mods do."No collision" does not mean "no interaction."
You said the cushion has no collision box, therefore it shouldn't provide fall protection. But that logic is flawed. If there were truly no interaction between the player and the cushion, the player would simply phase through it—just like they do with other non-collidable entities like item frames or paintings. However, that is not what happens. Players can land on it, the game registers the landing, and the cushion even temporarily disappears when the player dies and reappears after respawn. This proves there is a clear interaction between the player and the cushion. The inconsistency is the core of this report.
If the cushion is meant to be purely decorative, why does the game allow players to land on it at all? Why does it register a landing event? Why does the cushion react to the player's death? These are not behaviors of a "no collision" entity. They are behaviors of an entity that has unfinished or buggy collision handling. This report is about vanilla player expectation.
When a player sees a cushion in the game, they naturally expect it to behave like a cushion—soft, cushioning. The fact that it kills you instead is unintuitive and inconsistent with the game's own visual design. Whether Mojang intended it or not, this is a valid usability issue that deserves attention. If Mojang decides this is WAI, they will close it themselves.
Until then, this report is based on actual observable behavior in a pure vanilla environment. I have tested this in 26.3 Snapshot 4 and confirmed the issue still exists. Let the Mojang team make the final call.
Tested in 26.3 Snapshot 4, pure vanilla, no mods.
Your video and report describes the behavior of the cushion disappearing on the death screen, which is expected as all entities stop showing on the death screen. The cushion is not actually gone on death, and will reappear as soon as the player leaves the death screen and respawns. No collision means that the player should not be able to interact with the cushion simply by falling onto it, with the only player interaction being sitting on it via the use item/place block key.
This behavior is expected from practically all entities in the game, and the fact that cushions disappear on the death screen is not a unique characteristic of it. Regarding your point about player expectations, feedback can be given to Mojang at https://feedback.minecraft.net/ . I only stated that this could likely be WAI as the cushion is an entity, which would have the same interaction on death.
Why does the cushion react to the player's death?
There may be a misunderstanding as to what constitutes an interaction/reaction. From your video, it ends on the death screen, where it is expected for all entities to stop being shown. Ultimately your point still stands that the call is up to Mojang to decide, but with current mechanics affecting all other entities in the same way, it is reasonable to comment that this is issue is likey working as intended 🙂
