MC-310138 Player dies when landing on any cushion, cushion disappears with grass particles Duplicate

Comments

@phizlip Let's let Mojang decide. This is a bug report, not a debate forum.

@phizlip Thanks for your input, but I think there are a few misunderstandings here that need to be clarified.

  1. The cushion is a vanilla feature, not a mod.
It was added in 26.3 Snapshot 3 as an official Minecraft feature. Comparing it to modded blocks like "soft landing pillows" is irrelevant. This report is about vanilla behavior, not what mods do.

  2. "No collision" does not mean "no interaction."
You said the cushion has no collision box, therefore it shouldn't provide fall protection. But that logic is flawed. If there were truly no interaction between the player and the cushion, the player would simply phase through it—just like they do with other non-collidable entities like item frames or paintings. However, that is not what happens. Players can land on it, the game registers the landing, and the cushion even temporarily disappears when the player dies and reappears after respawn. This proves there is a clear interaction between the player and the cushion.

  3. The inconsistency is the core of this report.
If the cushion is meant to be purely decorative, why does the game allow players to land on it at all? Why does it register a landing event? Why does the cushion react to the player's death? These are not behaviors of a "no collision" entity. They are behaviors of an entity that has unfinished or buggy collision handling.

  4. This report is about vanilla player expectation.
When a player sees a cushion in the game, they naturally expect it to behave like a cushion—soft, cushioning. The fact that it kills you instead is unintuitive and inconsistent with the game's own visual design. Whether Mojang intended it or not, this is a valid usability issue that deserves attention.

  5. If Mojang decides this is WAI, they will close it themselves.
Until then, this report is based on actual observable behavior in a pure vanilla environment. I have tested this in 26.3 Snapshot 4 and confirmed the issue still exists. Let the Mojang team make the final call.

Tested in 26.3 Snapshot 4, pure vanilla, no mods.

Additional observation: When the player dies from fall damage on a cushion, the cushion itself temporarily disappears during the death animation and reappears after the player respawns.
