Block placement & item use become stuck/continuous after latest 26.3 update on MacOS

Since updating to the current version (installed automatically on launch), placing a block using Ctri+click (trackpad) or CtrI+click with a mouse causes blocks to continue placing repeatedly at the cursor's position, even after releasing CtrI and the click. This happens in both Survival and Creative mode and has NOT occurred prior to this update. The same setup actually worked correctly for the previous two years since the original purchase.

I've tried using boun an external mouse and my trackpad with the same results described above. I nave zero moas, resource packs, or shaders installed, and l've confirmed Sticky Keys in my MacBook's System Settings is turned off.

All you really have to do to reproduce the issue is hold ctri and click/tap to place a block. Then you release and blocks continue being placed wherever the pointer is pointing at a valid surface. The placement only stops when the cursor is moved away from the target block in any direction/distance

Environment

Affects Minecraft Version 3.40.19-2.6.2, running on a MacBook Pro 16-inch from 2019 with Sequoia 15.7.9 installed. I have an AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB card and an Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB card for my graphics.

After the most recent update (26.3), I cannot place any blocks, eat food, sleep etc. I can still use my left-click commands (so destroy/attack) but not right-click. This makes playing the game virtually impossible. I know it’s to do with the most recent update as I went back to the previous installation to double-check and my right-click commands work fine, just not on this version. I also play on a Macbook.

Is your “Use Item/Place Block” option in the Controls menu set to “Toggle”?

The controls are NOT set to “toggle”, but to “hold”. I added already a comment with a screenshot but seems that comment has been removed.
