wheat seeds are simply named 'seeds' and do not identify that they are wheat seeds

Unlike other seeds, wheat seeds do not identify as 'Wheat Seeds' but rather just 'Seeds'. Melon seeds and pumpkin seeds both are indicated as either Melon or Pumpkin Seeds.

As I'm sure this relates to wheat seeds having been added first, this would be an update fix for consistency rather than a bug fix but it would seem to be appropriate to update now that the other seeds are in the game.

Apologize if duplicate. Searched for 'wheat', 'seeds', 'naming', etc

That's they way it's always been and isn't a bug

Seeds are Seeds.
This is more of a suggestion, use Reddit or the Minecraft Forums to suggest it.

Reddit is for Minecraft ideas. This is not an idea. It is a note about naming conventions; an inconsistency relating to an item name. As I noted in the issue report, it is not a bug in the code but an inconsistency in naming which makes it an issue to be fixed, not an idea to consider.

It has been like this for 2 1/2 years now, even longer if we count the pre-beta (when basically nothing had an official name). This is just a thing in the game that has been in forever (could be one of the many "quirks" that Mojang likes).

As a player, I noted something unexpected. As a programmer, I noted something that I would want to fix if it were my program. Thanks for adding your opinion. I'll await a mod to decide if naming conventions are issues to be reported and wait to see if Mojang feels it's an issue to fix.

Still a concern in 1.7.4/5 and 14w08a

Confirmed for 14w21b.

The other seeds clarify what they are so they don't confuse them with regular seeds, so we can leave the wheat seed name as "Seeds".

Works As Intended

If I may, this actually sounds weird to me as well.

On one side, these seeds are obtained from grass, not wheat, but produce wheat, not grass, so they are actually something... Between...

However, melon seeds and pumpkin seeds are as well obtainable in multiple ways (Mainly looting, but still...), and have their name.

I'll try explain why to rename it - minor reasons, but still reasons:

  • New player will most likely come across wheat seeds before others. Item named "Seeds" implies that there are no other seeds (of course older players know that there are some other, but newbies could not know that), making him not looking for any other and possibly eating all the melons before realizing that there are melon seeds.

  • Already said, consistency. "Seeds" sounds like a group of all seeds. That looks like a counter for the previous reason, but it really isn't - previous reason is what most likely confuse newbies, this will not confuse anyone, it just sounds weirdly.

  • And what was said from you, only named reason I found why not to rename it is that "it was so for ages". Well... I don't know who was working on Czech language, but that was receieving really many renames. "Dlaždice" -> "Kamenná suť" as an example.
    > But back to the point - older players already know that wheat seeds are green and other aren't, newbies can't mismatch it with previous seeds - simply because they haven't seen the previous seeds name.

This report was resolved as Working as Intended by the developers, and is therefore not a bug. To request a change, please do this on Minecraft Suggestions on Reddit.
