What I expected to happen was that the launcher was going to launch

I thought the launcher was going to launch minecraft 1.6.4 (or 1.7.2) since updating from 8.1
What actually happened was...:

The launcher failed to load minecraft. It opened, and sent out the code but never opened the Minecraft client. Vanilla nor moded.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Windows 8.1
2. Load Minecraft Launcher
3. Launch Minecraft

Actually, given the information in the link to the crash report, I'd say it's MC-297
Firstly, let me just say that you can attach the report directly to the ticket (Click the "Attach File" button at the top), this is much easier than pastie or pastebin. 😉
Secondly, to fix the issue, you'll need to update your graphics card drivers. MC-297 explains how.
@Neospector, well I've been trying to get my driver working.
Somehow disabling the not-working driver, enabling twice works... And minecraft works.
Yeah, I don't understand much about how it works, which is why I've counted myself lucky that I've never had the issue (knock on wood).
All I know is that you follow the instructions and it should work, and that it's not an issue with Minecraft itself. If you've gotten it working, that's awesome though.
