I was having this issue as well. This may be unrelated but it resolved itself after I integrated Twitch & relogged. May be a possible solution for the mean time?
13w47e crashes when using integrated function keys to adjust system volume up from 100%.
Might be related pausing and unpausing a youtube video (running in chrome) and snapping the minecraft window to a new location / resolution also cause crashes of the client.
I'm not using the Twitch API, but in 13w47e I cannot adjust neither my volume, nor my screen brightness in-game. On my Inspiron volume and brightness are bound to Fn + F11&F12 and F4&F5 respectively. The game crashes completely, not just to the Launcher, and not always saves the current progress.
Same here, I'm not using Twitch API as well (I've not even got an account). Yet, my game crashes when I changing the volume up/down, muting/unmuting & changing the brightness.
Just updated Java, bug still exists with jre-7u45-windows-x64, and with jdk-7u45-windows-x64
