"~" and "^" not Working on Mac with certain Keyboard Layouts

Jeah I know, there was a fix for it.

On 1.6 i cloundnt use "ß" but, this now works, but other chars like "^" oder "~" arent still working.

i am able to copy & past them to the chat, but i cant type them directly.

my keyboard layout is german.
macmini with apple bluetooth keyboard (german layout) - same problem.
i pluged an usb-keyboard (logitech windows keyboard - german layout) into my macbook - same problem.

Cannot Reproduce. I can type ~ and ^ without issue. Are you using a german keyboard layout?

These are definitely issues with your keyboard and LWGL I'm guessing.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 14w06b / Launcher version 1.3.9 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

You can insert these characters in the chat but not write them from the keyboard. (14w07a)

I still have this issue in OSX Mavericks 10.9.1, Minecraft version 1.7.4, launcher 1.3.10. My Keyboard layout is portuguese and my mac is a macbook pro 13'' early 2011.
Accented letters – á à é è í ì ó ò ú ù â ê î ô û ã õ – don't work when written from the keyboard. They do appear correctly when pasting them.

Thanks for fixing this out!

I'm using OSX 10.6.8 on a white MacBook 6.1 with a swiss keyboard. This bug still exists up to 14w07a (including 1.7.4), I can't type the symbols ^ (has its own key) and ~ (alt+N), but copy-pasting them works perfectly fine. Maybe it's because those symbols "expect" to have another letter following?

Same issue, OSX 10.9, Java 7, 14w07a, Spanish keyboard, if I press Alt + Ñ it outputs nothing (it should output a ~ in an Spanish keyboard). If I press Shift + Alt + Ñ, it outputs ˜, similar to ~, but not equal, as it doesn't work to set relative coordinates. I tried both Alt + N and Shift + Alt + N, not working, anyway, as I said, with an Spanish keyboard it should be done with Alt + Ñ.

Annoying issue, given that relative coordinates are used often with command blocks.

Accented letters doesn't work neither, but I guess that I should post that on another thread.

Doesn't work with my spanish keyboard either 😞

Using "French Canadian - CSA", it does it for me to on OSX 10.8.2 and 10.9.1

migrated

It doesn't work with all types of keyboards: azerty, german, etc..

migrated

Mojang has to fix it I have the same Problem

German Layout and 10.7.5

alex_dlc

This bug seems like it should be easy to fix. I hope they do it soon, tired of having to copy pase it every time.

migrated

Hope they do fix it.

migrated

Still in 10c

It don't work with french layout too.

migrated

Yes, Azerty/french keyboard

The bug was already there in 1.5 or 1.6

Confirmed for 14w11b

Confirmed in 14w17a

Edit: I'm working on a IMac (Mid 2011) 21.5' , pentium i5 and 12 GB-Ram with Java7U55 and 10.9.2

I use command blocks a lot and its a real hassle having to copy and paste the tilde every single time. Im surprised this is still not fixed. Confirmed in 14w18a

(iMac 2013 - Spanish Keyboard)

alex_dlc

Im happy to report that I am now able to input ~ without having to copy and paste it in. 🙂 Im not sure if it is thanks to this weeks snapshot or last weeks.

For some reason, it does not use the same keyboard shortcut as OSX. Anywhere besides Minecraft, I can hit Alt+Ñ to type a tilde. But in Minecraft, I need to do Cmd+Alt+Ñ. (I'm on a Spanish keyboard.)

And as far as I can tell, I still cant input ^

migrated

not working on spanish too

migrated

Fortunately I can confirm Alex's post. OS X 10.8.5 with german keyboard layout and Minecraft 14w21b: Cmd+Alt+N = ~

Edit: And CMD+^ (the key under my escape key) inputs ^ (it seems that cmd+deadkey is a workaround) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_key

alex_dlc

CMD+ALT+Ñ to input ~ still works on my Spanish keyboard. But I don't know about other EU keyboards.

I am not able to input ^ with CMD+^like Sven said. (The key under my esc key is ª)

Confirmed for 14w34c.

edit: cmd+alt+n does work, just not the regular alt+n.

migrated

as redstonehelper said, it does work with cmd+alt+n
I think it can still be considered as a "bug" though.
Please change it so that we only have to type alt+n

migrated

That's for ANY dead keys. They just don't work :/ I opened a problem about it quite some time ago.

Same issue here with
Finnish Keyboard Layout
OSX 10.7.5
Minecraft 1.8.8
Launcher 1.6.13

migrated

With the US international keyboard set on mac it wont let you type ˜, ', and a few other characters in 1.8.8.

migrated

That would be great if anyone who vote this bug would vote for https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-6436 ?

Jacie_krece

They're dead keys? To type dead key (Like tildas on polish keyboard) you must type space after it to work. And TILDAS AREN"T WORKING HERE!

migrated

@Jan : it works now, at least in the latest snapshot.
