Map deleted from item frame.

Could not find this in a search.

Explored maps, stored in item frames, have been deleted from those frames.

What I expected to happen:
Expected to look at my 4x3 map on the wall and see all the maps that had been put there.

What happened:
3 maps are missing from the corner. The item frames are empty and the maps are nowhere to be found. I do not know if they somehow popped out and decayed or if they deleted out of the frames directly.

Did you have a creeper explosion or any other explosion fairly close to it?

Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report ([minecraft/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]) here.

No explosions or any mobs at all nearby. If it happens again, I'll force a crash, if that will help.

Please force the crash now.

It may have been the result of lightning striking nearby, which I've witnessed to have deleted items in frames, though in the cases I've seen, this also deleted or knocked down the item frames.

See: https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC-38307

Here's the report from a forced crash.

I do not think this problem was related to a lightning strike. First, the only lightning storm that has ever occurred around my home, happened before I set up that map. Second, the nearest map to any wall is 7 blocks from the outside air where lightning could have struck. 8 if you count the map itself. Does lightning AOE extend that far?

My best estimation is that the lightning strike area of effect is about 3 blocks to the sides and 3 blocks down. Possibly 3 blocks up as well, but I haven't tested for that. As I mentioned, in the cases I've seen, it also deleted or knocked down the frames the items were in as well, though considering my small sample size, I wouldn't rule out that in some cases it may just delete items from within some frames.

But taking a closer look at your screenshot, it seems that there is at least a one-square gap between the top level maps and what is possibly the roof, which wouldn't explain the bottom frame, which seems like it would be outside the area-effect range that I've observed.
