I have installed minecraft version 1.7.4.
From the Minecraft Launcher 1.3.6, I click the Play button at the bottom.
Then I see a green progress bar move across the bottom of the launcher screen.
The game console opens up with the Mojang logo on the screen. Then the game console closes again and it returns to the launcher. The game won't stay open after I hit Play and I am unable to play it.
Attached the error message log from the minecraft launch development console. I have logged a bug report with Sun/Oracle for the Java crash error, but I was hoping you might be able to help advise how to get minecraft working on my machine.
Note: I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Java, and also checked that my device drivers are all up to date, but neither fixed the problem.

I checked that the graphics drivers are up to date and re-installed Java
(again) and none of these steps worked. The same problem still happens -
when I click the plan button, it opens the game console window, shows the
Mojang logo, then closes the game console window and returns to the
launcher window. Since I purchased minecraft I have not been able to play
it because of this problem. I would really like to play it but if it won't
work on my computer I will need to request a refund. Please advise as to
what other steps I can take to get it working.
Thank you.

Duplicate of MC-14051 - Please update your graphics card drivers following these instructions: Updating Graphics Card Drivers.
If you are using Java arguments to increase the amount of memory, please reduce it to the default 512MB.
Do not rely on automatic searches for driver updates.
Do not use Windows Update or Device Manager - Microsoft doesn't install OpenGL, they promote DirectX.
If you know the brand and type of your graphics card, go to the links provided above and search manually for the most recent driver for your card. The automatic detection tools of the card manufacturers are not recommended.
If all that won't help, please use the Mojang Support Center.
