So I logged on to do my usual things, but when I opened my chests I could only hear the sound from my right hand side and when I turned around so I had the chest on my left hand side I heard the sound from left.
Might seem legit to you, but if I have the chest right in front of me two things can happen either the sounds comes from the right or the left.
This apply to any interaction within the game,
Chests, doors, trapdoors, flipping levers, pushing buttons and so on.
Aswell as placing blocks.
I can't really show you any pictures and I have no recording devices to proof.

No I use steel series and my surround sound works on everything else, such as music, walking and clicking on options.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 14w08a / Launcher version 1.3.9 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. (BC)
Are you using a Logitech headset? (G930)
Your sound may be configured for 5.1 and you only have 4/4.1 hence no sound from a center channel.
