Incorrect user created if playing offline.

Disconnect Internet. Must set server.properties to online=false. Login, it creates a new user. Items, location etc of actual user in the phantom zone awaiting an authenticated login.

If online is false, we cannot authenticate, ergo please ignore UUID and just match on player name rather than create new player.

Offline mode is unsupported.

If we could all guarentee that our Internet connections were always available, I wouldn't care less, but ISPs are completely out of the player control and such outages thus impact our gameplay with this new, and wonderful, feature.

I disagree highly with this being marked as invalid. If there is no way to get the UUID, the server should at least use the usercache.json file to try and get the correct UUID. This should be considered an issue and not ignored. An instance where offline mode would be useful is when the authentication servers go down. If this issue isn't resolved, maybe in the future it will be possible to request the UUID through the upcoming mod API through an "add-on" or something along those lines.

An interesting thing I saw when setting a server to offline mode after it was in online mode is I could not find where the player data was stored. Was it overwriting the old player data? Or was it being stored in a folder other than playerdata?

I agree with Tails. Offfline mode is mainly used for cracked servers, and Mojang shouldn,t support cracked servers/launchers.

"mainly for cracked servers, there for shouldn't be supported"

So because there are 'some' unfavorable uses it shouldn't be supported for the rest of us that have perfectly valid uses?

I run a server from the same computer I play on. My fiance is overseas and plays on said server with me. When the authentication servers are down I have to use offline mode for us to play together. Even without her on, I can't log on to it myself from the same computer without offline mode when the authentication servers are down.

When we get to see each other in person we'll play the same server on our own local network. Still have the same issue with the authentication servers sometimes and have to switch to offline mode.

also what exactly would you call a "cracked" server anyway? the server files are provided for free...

@jonathan - Cracked normally would be that they are playing full games of Minecraft without paying for the use (i.e. didn't buy the game)
