I disagree highly with this being marked as invalid. If there is no way to get the UUID, the server should at least use the usercache.json file to try and get the correct UUID. This should be considered an issue and not ignored. An instance where offline mode would be useful is when the authentication servers go down. If this issue isn't resolved, maybe in the future it will be possible to request the UUID through the upcoming mod API through an "add-on" or something along those lines.
An interesting thing I saw when setting a server to offline mode after it was in online mode is I could not find where the player data was stored. Was it overwriting the old player data? Or was it being stored in a folder other than playerdata?
