Any stone slabs ontop of one another creates a double stone block

I opened up minecraft and saw there were some smooth double stone slab blocks in my world, after testing in previous versions and seeing that they were unavailable in recent versions I got confused and middle clicked on it and it gave me a stone brick half slab, I placed it down and it was as you would expect but then I put another on top of it and it turned into the smooth double stone slab. CTRL + Middle click won't give me the block either.

Upon further investigation I have found that it happens with every slab, not just the stone bricks.

More testing and it doesn't effect any wood slabs but all others.

Did some more testing and found that it affects all slabs.

It dousn't effect the (new) wooden slabs
confirmed

It also seems to be related to a "Round Trip Different" issue (F3+point one of these blocks). All A/E differences are different on each kind of slab

I was going to report this, but I then saw this issue and multiple related issues. Go figure. I will post a screenshot anyways.

Yes I know, but it was relevant to the topic. This bug needs to be corrected, but it might be possible to leave the stone double slab after correcting the bug.

That already exists as a double slab. Either damage value 8 or 9, I forget which. The other is the sandstone equivalent.

I agree, the stone double slab would look better as the current "bug" block.

I can confirm this behaviour.
It does get the correct slab back when "pick block".

Pointing at a double brick slab.
