World turns invisible after breaking a block from a tree

Today, I decided to re-install minecraft. I was going about my usual routine as I once did the first times I played minecraft a year prior. I found a place to settle down, then I found a tree, gathered one wood, and then my world turns invisible. I could see lava and water near me and beneath me. I don't know what caused this, and I am asking if anyone else has ran into this issue and if they can help me with it.
