When crafting multiple written books for trading very often there is a single book that will not stack with the current batch or any other written books crafted after that. It may stack with written books crafted before it's own creation, but I have yet to find a method of testing this 🙂 (could't resist some MC humor, you guys are awesome!)
I mass produce written books the same way every time, zero content with a single letter title.

Ah, I was hoping this had "fixed" it's self with one of the updates since it was reported, but also nice to see I'm not the only one 🙂
This sounds like WAI to me since the addition of "generations" to books: the original book is an "original" and won't stack with the new books that are "copy of original". Similarly, a "copy of copy" won't stack with either "original" or "copy of original".
To stack without losing the NBT data, written books must be identical: same author, same title, same contents, and same generation.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.

A Librarian Villager requests 2 stacked Written Books in return for 1 Emerald on his sixth trade.
I have not yet discovered any method as to stacking any books bearing any name, including identical names.
Placing 2 of these books (named Written Book) in each of the slots proves ineffective.
This isn't a bug; you have to make copies of an original written and signed book through your crafting table, and those copies will stack. Rather counterintuitive, yes, but not a bug.
Observed same problem in 14w31a. Written Books would only stack for me if named the same thing on signing(only tested by calling each "Written Book"). Renaming other written books to the same named would not allow stacking, and unstacked written books would not activate the trade.
