Pets Get Lost In Unloaded Chunks When The Player Teleports

When the player teleports, e.g. using a Nether Portal, end portal, or the /tp command, any pets following them will sometimes fail to teleport before the chunk they are in is unloaded. At that point, the only way to retrieve them is to return to the place they were lost and try again.

1. Get pets following you
2. Teleport far enough that the pet is now out of chunkloading range.
3. The pet may or may not teleport to you.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.

Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.

Occurs in 1.8.8 while boating. Since they swim painfully slowly (thanks to MC-48616), it's easy to leave them far behind. If I don't enter water shallow enough for them to tp into before their chunk unloads, they unload with it. Crossing any decent-sized body of water requires going aaaaaaall the way around the edges and skimming the coast at regular intervals.

Is this still an issue in the current Minecraft Snapshot 15w49b or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Ticket resolved as incomplete, because no answer in a reasonable amount of time (1+ year), if it still happens, please update the ticket.
