I was playing on a redstone ready flat world when I noticed that the game randomly started to freeze.
Renderdistance: 32 chunks.
The F3 menu is showing a usage of 80 to 100% of memory use (out of 8Gb allocated).
Every time the game reaches 100% it freezes for a short time and starts again at 80% memory usage.
Dropping the view distance down to 16 chunks avoids the freeze, but the game is still running around 70 to 90 % of memory use.

I tried to recreate the bug and apparently, unloading a save and loading another one causes a memory leak.
By doing this 20 times, 5Gb of RAM were used.
Was the memory leak showing this? the forced crash report only shows 481 MB of memory being actually used. Java has reserved 6838MB of memory from the operating system, but minecraft itself is only using a small portion of that.
Memory: 504757928 bytes (481 MB) / 7170686976 bytes (6838 MB) up to 7635730432 bytes (7282 MB)
Let the new launcher apply new default JVM options:
Open your profile
Uncheck JVM arguments
Save
Reopen your profile
Reapply -Xmx8G
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.
Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report (
