When angry zombie pigmen are chasing you, they will press themselves against walls of closed fence gates. Then if you open the fence gate next to them, they won't walk through it.
To reproduce:
1. Cover both entrances to the lava room of a nether fortress with fence gates.
2. Attack a zombie pigman.
3. Run back inside the fence gates.
4. Wait until a horde of pigmen gather outside the gates.
5. Open one set of gates.
6. The pigmen pressed against the other two gates won't realize that they can get in.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.
I've had this problem with sheep as well. So probably all mobs have this problem in relation with the experimental pathfinding in 31a. It's quite annoying.
