The Bug:
The white markers on maps created in the nether or end dimensions don't disappear when viewing the maps in the overworld until the world is reloaded.
Steps to Reproduce:
Enter the nether or end and obtain a map.
Fill the map by right-clicking on it while it's held in your hand.
Look at the filled map and observe how there is a white marker used to indicate your location.
Enter the overworld and look at the map once again.
Take note as to whether or not the white markers on maps created in the nether or end dimensions don't disappear when viewing the maps in the overworld until the world is reloaded.
Observed Behavior:
The white markers don't disappear.
Expected Behavior:
The white markers would disappear.

Pointers disappearing on me are a related trend. For example, in the overworld, create a map, activate it, zoom it in a bit, clone it, put one copy in an item frame and then go out exploring. Be sure that the exploring includes logging in and out of Minecraft at some point. Under these circumstances I can make the /green/ pointer disappear. It's restored when you go back home and re-look at the framed map.
The Nether - well, what's the point of a screen grab? It'll be a nether map, so grey and orange all over. And even if you look at it in the overworld, you'll still see a white pointer, but because it's not 'live' it won't jiggle about randomly like it does in the nether. A screen grab of that will look just like any other nether map.
Speculation: Could these effects be the result of having clones of a map in a frame? I haven't tried all permutations, but one could make a nether map, clone it and frame the clone in the nether, as I did, or in the overworld, which I haven't tried yet. Or make a real-world map, carry it to the nether and frame it there. (I'd expect to just see a green pointer for that one.) Then there's all the other end/nether/overworld permutations as well.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Confirmed in 1.5.1.

Is this still an issue in the current Minecraft Snapshot 15w49b or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

A relog has always reset the map pointer.
As of 16w42a when they fixed MC-46345, it became possible to re-enter the Nether and have the pointer start moving again – but still this bug remains

Confirmed for 1.13.1.

Confirmed for 20w06a. Please change the reporter to me so it can be kept updated
Can confirm in 20w48a.
Can confirm in 20w49a.
I can confirm this behavior in 1.19.2. Would it be cool if I can take ownership of this ticket since its reporter is inactive? I'm willing to regularly update it and will provide further information if some were to arise where necessary. Thanks in advance! 🙂
Please add screenshots of what your trying to say, so we can get a better idea. To my understanding, no a pointer should not show. I am currently going to go and test it.
