Me and my friend like to play on creative worlds together. But we often go on servers because the LAN feature does nothing but dissapoint. He comes over my house, we try LAN worlds, get pissed off, then look up tutorials, try again, break the walls down. It might have to do with the fact that I use Mac and he uses Windows... But he got a new Windows 8 and it STILL doesn't work.
What I expected to happen was...:
Have fun building a house with my friends over an LAN world (because then other players won't screw around us)
What actually happened was...:
Having to play on a server with annoying 8 year olds
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get a Mac
2. Get a Windows
3. Try LAN

the problem is most likely 1 and 2
This is a tech support issue, but make sure the lan actually works first.
There could be many causes for this, including antivirus software or firewalls blocking java.
This is a technical support issue; this site is for bug reports only. For technical support please use the Mojang Support Center.
One day, one random day recently, LAN gave up for reasons unknown. No solutions prove successful.
-Antivirus is not thing
-Firewall is not a thing
-Online
-Both computers have Windows 8.1 (always have) and have worked perfectly in the recent past (days ago for weeks)
-No change in Router or Modem at all
-No change in Javas (both of which are updated to the most recent 64-bit)
-Technical Support, expecting it to be a useful respite, is of no help
-Minecraft 1.8.4
-LAN does not show up and Direct Connect results in Connection Refused
-This is a deal
If I understand correctly, this is not supposed to intended.
try changing the controls if not thenun plug the mouse than replug it in
