Item Sorters Breaking

Since update to 1.8 & 1.8.1 my item sorters continually break. This issue did not occur in previous versions. While sorting for "x" item, the second slot in the sorting hopper transports the generic item causing the sorting hopper to allow a different item to be sorted.
