note: This NOT a dup of MC-50339 so don't just 'resolve it'. The details of the behavior are very different other than the 'won't sit' part. By flagging everything as a dup based on trivial similarities, you foul up the debugging process by hiding information from the developers.
description:
some standing tamed cats will suddenly not sit when commanded. sitting cats will stand and then refuse to sit. Kittens will not sit when bred.
Restarted server and client. Issue persists. Dogs behave normally.
There were no changes to the version, nothing changed about the player or player ID. Dogs are fine. Cats WILL stand up but then refuse to sit. Some cats may stand/sit while others will not sit.
I have checked the save files and all the cats have the correct UUID set as OwnerUUID so this is not a corrupt/incorrect UUID problem.
Update: I've gone further and confirmed the entire entity data structure of working and non-working cats seem to be fundamentally the same (i.e., there's nothing obviously broken for the bad cats). Could this have something to do with position in chunk data or something upstream in the data tree?

I have this issue on my world too, seems that in the 1.8 update, cats just don't want to sit. I just wait till my cat sits on a Furnace, Chest, Crafting Table etc.
Is this still an issue in the current Minecraft Snapshot 15w47c or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
No: Click 'Update Issue', enter new affected versions in the appropriate field and confirm.
edit: This only works if you're the reporter of the ticket. Since you're not: you just leave a comment and a mod will update the ticket for you.
In my creative snapshot 15w47c I summoned a type 1 tamed cat and attached a lead to it. I then began to move it over a chest, upgraded to a double chest, furnace and bed, I then took off the lead and began making the cat jump onto each one by flying up high, nothing was wrong. After this I reattached a lead to continue making it move onto the blocks, still nothing. However when the cat wandered aimlessly by itself onto the double chest it sat by itself and would not stand until I broke the half of the chest it was on, it resumed the standing position, and I was then able to make it sit and stand normally again.
After this post I resumed testing and found that when cat wandered onto the bed, by itself, it would also sit by itself and not stand on command. When I broke the bed it resumed the standing position and was able to sit and stand regularly again.
Oh, I didn't know that. The bug is probably fixed then as this doesn't happen on regular blocks like it used to.
I think I may be having this problem as well. It seems to happen when a cat has its pathfinding towards a chest or bed interrupted; under some circumstances that I've had difficulty in reproducing, when a cat starts moving towards a chest or bed but I move far enough away before they assume their automatic-sitting behavior, they seem to become "stuck" in "sit on item" mode and unwilling to move away even with use of fish as should get them to move again. But as I said, I'm having trouble reproducing reliably; any advice on that would be appreciated.
